CAN I FALL PREGNANT IF I STILL HAVE MILK IN MY BREASTS?
Dear Meisie
Inappropriate milk production from the breasts i.e. in the absence of pregnancy or lactation is termed galactorrhoea and is an indication of excessive prolactin hormone production. this may in turn result in ovulatory dysfunction and hence infertility. However, if the breast milk production is as a result of a pregnancy and is part of normal lactation, then certainly ovulation can still occur and pregnancy can and may still occur if menstrual cycles are regular. However, even in this instance it would be advisable to have all milk production stopped by means of medication (parlodel/ dostinex /liserdol/ noprolac).
