hamster is losing weight
My hamster is losing weight just before winter sets in. Surely he should be picking up weight? Could something be wrong?

Weight loss in a hamster can be due to many causes, such as an infection, overgrown teeth, cancer (in older hamsters), diabetes, etc etc. Ensure he has adequate food - they often store husks, which creates the appearance that the animal has a lot of food, while there is in actual fact very little. If he starts feeling bony, it would be better to have him checked out by a vet interested in small mammals.
