Dear Reader
I quite agree that fad diets are self-defeating. Research has shown that to lose weight you need to increase your energy expenditure by doing regular exercise and decrease your energy intake by eating a low-fat, high-fibre diet (click on 'Diet' and 'Weight loss' and 'Slimming Diet' for an example).
