Hi DDoc!
When should a person start takin vitamin & mineral eg. centrum? Should everyone be taking it?
Dear JJ
In the light of new research, individuals who do not need to take vitamin and mineral supplements like Centrum because they are eating a balanced diet should not take additional vitamins and minerals, because excessive intakes of certain vitamins can be harmful. So everyone should certainly NOT be taking vitamin and mineral supplements. If you eat a very unbalanced diet (no fruit and veg, no dairy products, etc) or have an increased need because of recent or existing illness (e.g. iron deficiency anaemia, infections, etc) or growth (pregnancy, lactation) then you can take a supplement like Centrum for a month or so, or for the duration of pregnancy (but only if prescribed by a medical dr because it can also be harmful to the unborn baby to take excessive doses of vit A before birth)or lactation.
Decide if you have such a need and if you eat a deficient diet before you take any vitamin or mineral supplements.
Best regards
