Hi Gay man,

It's sad that I cannot answer your question - we don't know the incidence of HIV in the gay or lesbian community in South Africa. Official government research into the HIV epidemic is focused on pregnant women attending ante-natal clinics, from which conclusions on the incidence of HIV in the general population in various provinces are calculated. The results have no significance for the gay or lesbian community.

We do know that the gay community is at particular risk of HIV infection. The lesbian community is also having to come to terms with HIV and AIDS, with most infections occuring during rape by men.
