Kilocalories are actually just the same as calories, and they indicate just how much energy is burned when you exercise i.e the more intense the exercise, the more calories you use up.
Similarly, food energy is measured in calories so you can more or less calculate how much energy you take in and how much you expend in a day.
Energy can also be measured in kilojoules. There are 4.2 kilojoules in a calorie, however, calorie is the more popular choice of energy expenditure on exercise machines.
