Dear Kezia
If you are having dialysis for kidney failure, it may not be advisable to take protein powder. Please first consult a registered dietitian (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area), who will have to work out a specific dietary prescription for you taking into account your age, height, weight, degree of kidney failure, other medical conditions, oedema, and energy requirements. In some cases patients with severe kidney problems have to restrict their protein intake a great deal, so please do NOT take any protein powder until you have consult the dietitian.
