Hi.Why dont pet shops sell Pitbulls? What is the reason for this? Im thinking of buying one mainly for protection of my house, but have kids also at home. Will it be safe to let kids play with these dogs?

Also, is it true that they have lock jaws or is this just a myth?

Pitt bull terriers have very strong jaws and have been associated with organised dog fighting. They are banned in the UK under the dangerous dogs act and a dog may be "jailed" and even put to sleep if it even looks like a Pitt bull terrier. In SA some people keep them for fighting as well. Unfortunately when they have been bred for this purpose they may be unpredictable and may bite people as well. There are many other breeds that are good house pets that will be protective of your home and property as well.
