Puppy Class
I have a basset puppy born on 13 January 2004. She will be 9 weeks old on 16 March. She has had her first innoculation on 3 March. When will she be able to go to puppy class / dog training ? The breeder said that she (the puppy) is not allowed to come into contact with other dogs until she has had her second innoculation. Why is that ?

Hi Panther
You can start puppy classes any time between 8 and 14 weeks of age, as long as ishe is healthy and it is a reputable puppy school. One vaccination is advisable, but it really isn't very effective until all three vaccinations are done, so you obviously need to avoid situations where your pup could pick up serious viruses, like places where there are stray dogs. The latest theory is that puppies are more resistant to bugs if they socialise early. Of course there's also the social side - pups that are socialised by the age of 14 weeks are much less likely to have behaviourial problems later on. Have fun with her!
