Ok, interesting quesion to follow on here - do you believe ( from your experience of pets and other animals ) that animals have ANY sense of right and wrong ? When your cat or dog looks guilty, or exaggeratedly innocent when they have broken a vase - does that include any element of knowing it was WRONG to do so, or merely an accurate recognition that you will be angry about it ? Perhaps they feel Shame ( uncomfortable when you scold them ) rather than Guilt ( which is internally generated ) ? Or does the pooch lie awake at night brooding over the damage he caused in the spare room, even though you haven't been greatly bothered by it ?
