regular sore throat
Hey Dr
After one night of straining my voice to various good songs at various clubs, I woke up with a sore throat that didn' t go away and ended up visiting my GP, who prescribed some meds.
Since that time ( 4 years ago) I would regularly develop a sore throat (whenever i' m stressed or around people with a cold/flu). Sometimes this will pass after a day or two, but other times it would develop into a heavy mucussy sickness from which I would suffer for as much as 5 or 6 weeks, by which time I would be desperate and depressed.
A GP would prescribe penicillin, but 3months later it just pops up again and the pharmacist then can' t give me another dose under the medical aid policy etc.
Basically I' m sick for an average of 2 months a year and it all starts with a sore throat...
I eat average, do regular excercise with a bmi of 22.
Must i gargle more salt? Up my vit C intake?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!! :)
thanks

Dear Lozenge
A chronic sore throat may be caused by a chronic post nasal drip ( caused by an allergy) or even something like heartburn - acid running back into the throat when you lie down. Sometimes the doctor does not realize that this is something that recurs especially if you are not seeing the same one every time. Do you still have your tonsils? Do you get swollen glands in your neck if this happens?
Try using Tonsolyte or Tonsilla as prevention daily ( a homeopathic medication that you can buy over the counter)
