have been diagnosed with thyroiditis. am on thyroid medication to bring levels down, but feel awful every day. have flu like symptoms and constant sore throat. have been told that it may take up to a year for it to burn itself out. is it not better in the long run if i take the iodine medication and nuke it than just sitting out waiting. i am to have more blood tests in 3 months time to check my levels.

No don't "nuke" it! The thyroid may still work after the thyroiditis is burnt out, and if you can let it work on its own it is always better than taking supplements for the rest of your life! Try taking an anti-inflammatory like Neurofen for the sore throat, or ask your doctor if you can use a short course of cortisone
