Dear Barbara
Barret's esophagitis is caused by stomach acid pushing back into the esophagus, burning it and causing inflammation and sometimes narrowing of the esophagus. It can be a warning that the patient will be prone to get esophagus cancer. This could also be the root of the asthma problem by the way!
