why only low fat foods?
dear diet doc,

theres something that is confusing me, i was put on a strict diet because i am underweight and need to put on a bit of weight and also i am very active (go to the gym about five times a week). anyway i can only eat low fat foods and drink low fat milk and i was just wondering what the reason is for that? i mean i thought we are supposed to have fats in our diet because its healthy?

many thanks

Dear Sunflower
You don't mention who put you on this diet? Your gym instructor? or a doctor? If you don't have raised blood fat levels and need to gain weight then you can use normal or full-cream milk and dairy products and mono- or polyunsaturated fats and oils (the good fats like soft margarine and olive oil) for cooking and as salad dressings. However, if you do have high blood fat levels, then it is better to stick to the low-fat versions.
Best regards
