depression
Im 15 and have periods of depression since I was about 13, but it has got a lot worse recently and earlier in the year i attempted suicide. I have been to see 2 or 3 psychiatrists but none of them have been able to do anything to help me. I have been perscribed anti-depressents but I am too scared to take them because I don't want to become reliant on them and I have heard many stories of people who have. I don't know what to do, the person closest to me has just dumped me and she was the only reason I couldn't complete the suicide earlier in the year. Everyone tells me I have so much to live for but at the momentit doesnt feel like it and I have absolutely no reason to live. Some day I come home and just lie on my bed, I dont have the energy to do anything. My grades are dropping and my parents are getting really cross with me which just makes me feel worse! I also have a really low self esteem and personally cannot see my worth. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Your depression is very real and you do need to get some help as soon as possible. Why do you feel the psychiatrists you saw did not help? Have you ever seen a Psychologist or counsellor for therapy? The approach that is the most effective for depression is talking therapies, and second to that talking therapy combined with anti-depressant medication.

Whilst some have concerns about addiction to medication the modern anti-depressants are not typically addictive and I do think that you should try them before dismissing them as a treatment approach - but I would recommend that you do this in combination with psychotherapy.

Please reach out and ask for help - acknowledge your value even though right now its hard to feel it. If you cant speak to your parents please think about approaching a teacher or school counsellor who can help you get the process started.

You are clearly very unhappy with how things are right now and it is important for you to know that the right kind of assistance is out there and you deserve to feel better than you do right now.
