I did a class of bikram yoga last sunday and it was very intense. It has had quite an effect on my body, first i was very dehydrated and dizzy but now its had quite an effect on my stomach and im still feeling a bit groggy. Is this normal and is my body just ridding itself of toxins?

Dear Janine - I don't think that this is a normal reaction, although some people will be more susceptible to heat than others, particularly if you are already a more fiery/hot person by nature. It sounds to me that it is more likely to be a mild case of dehydration, which would also explain the stomach issues and dizziness. As I am sure they emphasised in the class, it is critical to take in lots of liquid when practising in high temperature. If the problems persist I would suggest consulting a healthcare practitioner but remember that part of the learning process in yoga is developing a greater physical awareness so you learn to practise without causing distress in the body.
