Dear how long - a key benefit of a regular practice is to develop a greater awareness of the body and also to learn its limitations, which are different for all. Likewise the time it takes to notice/feel and see a difference will differ according to each individual and I would not recommend making it a goal orientated practice but rather just enjoy the journey. There are many different styles of yoga, which have greater and lesser physical demands, and depending on how often you practice, for how long, your present conditioning, diet, etc you can notice a difference within a few weeks or it may take months. I would suggest a more intense form of yoga (eg Iyengar, Bikram, Ashtanga) to achieve firmness, flexibility and improved breathing. In terms of stress reduction you will get this benefit after your first class, with significantly reduced cortisol levels being virtually immediate.
