lower eye lid wrinkles
hello expert. can botox be used to treat wrinkles on the lower eye lid - between the bony rim and the lower eyelid? if it is possible -how many units will be needed? thank you very much for a very informative forum :-)

Botox can be used (and is indicated) for lower eyelid wrinkles however not everyone responds to the same degree. The reason for this is that the eyelid skin is the thinnest in the body and will be the first to show a loss in collagen and elastin. Furthermore with smiling our cheek fat pad is pushed upwards forcing the lower eyelid skin to fold producing visible lines.

Botox (in small units) may help to relax the lower eyelid muscle enough to reduce the appearance of the wrinkles formed. If a mild improvement is only noticed one may have to consider fractional skin resurfacing for further improvement.

Recommended doses for this area is 1 to 3 units each side but should not be injected if someone suffers from dry eyes.
