The Damage done to the body by alcohol and drug use depends a lot on the amount used, the length of time used, and the age at which use began. If the amount used was very high, this would lead to damage in a short period of time, with the more time the damage can not be reversed.
If the amount used was moderate, but it has been used for a number of years, the damage can accumulate to a point at which also can not be reversed.
Both the Liver and the Kidneys are fantastic organs that despite damage, they can either compensate or heal to a small degree to keep the body functioning well.
The best advice I can give is keep off the substances completely, especially if there has been abuse in the past. Support the Liver, Kidneys and whole body as best possible with a good wholesome nutritional plan, use supportive nutrients and herbs such as; selenium, vitamin C & E, vitamin B complex, Milk Thistle; and drink 1-2 litres pure water daily. In this way any damage that has been done will be limited, and hopefully healing can take place in areas of the organs that are stuggleing but not yet damaged too far.
This type of damage and healing takes 3 months for every 1 year of abuse, so be prepared for a lifestyle change.
Congratulations on this question, and on the intention to heal - Life is to be lived joyfully, vibrantly, full of energy and vitality, enthusiastic and open. Drugs and abusive substances can never lead to living Life in this way.
