Distance
How do I get greater distance with my drivers? When I try whack the ball I hook it.
Also what is the trick to using a 5 or 3 wood off the fairway? - I am used to using Tee's which you can't do on the fairway so when I try the woods on the fairway I hit the top of the ball - how do I get under it?

Have a look at the following web page - http://www.golfauction.co.za/general/tips/general/10m_more.htm on how to get more distance :
To get more distance you should try the following : Widen your Arc, Bigger Shoulder Turn, Keep you knees firm and flexed - these tips are explained on the web page above
Regarding the fairway wood : DO NOT try and get the under the ball and get it into the air - just concentrate on hitting the ball first and let the angle of the wood (15deg for #3 wood) get the ball into the air)
Hope this helps
