DIZZY SPELLS
My husband had a stroke about 6 weeks ago he is still having dizzy spells and feels quite light headed is it anything to worry about
Dear J,
As I cannot examine your husband, and do not know the cause for his stroke, it is extremely difficult you give you any meaningful opinion. However, most strokes are associated with high blood pressure, so I am presuming that this is the case here. If that is correct, then part of his afterstroke treatment would be to keep his blood pressure low, to prevent a second stroke happening. If he is on such antihypertensive treatment, it is possible that his blood pressure is a little too low for him, and that this is causing his dizzy spells.
Whether this is the case or not, his symptoms need to be reported to his doctor, and a cause found. He could, for example, have this low blood pressure; he could be anaemic; he could have a heart rhythm disturbance – and these are just 3 possibilities. But the most important thing is to make sure that he does not have a problem which could lead to a second stroke, which will be a lot worse than the first one, so please do get him to your doctor soon.
Good luck, I hope it turns out to be something simple and easily treatable.
