mild neutrophilia
Good day to you.
My daughter has been diagnosed with mild neutrophilia the blood count is 10,000.80.
Please can you answer the following -
1. What is this illness ?
2. How is one treated and how serious is it?
3. What causes one to get this illness?
She is not on a medical aid and before she rushes off to incur medical expenses which she cannot afford, we would appreciate it if you could enlighten up on the above.
Many thanks
Elaine

Answer:
Mild neutrophilia is not an illness but rather a symptom of some other underlying condition. The neutrophilia per se is not treated. The underlying cause for the neutrophilia should be treated and thereafter the neutrophilia usually clears up.
Neutrophilia may be caused by many conditions, for example infections, tissue damage, inflammatory conditions, acute blood loss, malignant disease, cigarette smoking, vigorous exercise, acute pain. This short list is not exhaustive. Your daughter’s clinical condition must be taken into account before any further test or course of action is decided upon.
