Severe stomach cramps
Hi,
My 18 yr old daughter is a sprinter ,very fit and healthy. She will run for a college next year. My question is is there anything to be done about the severe stomach cramps after running a fast 200 or 400m. Have tried lots of things but nothing seems to work.It sometimes takes her 15 mins to recover after running. She has been running for 5 years now.
Would appreciate any info.

Hi anne
It can possibly be due to ischemia when running. This means that oxygen containg blood is diverted away from the abdominal/diaphragm to the active leg muscles.

It is found in some cases that if one uses drinks that are isotonic or hypotonic (less concentrated or even water that this may help the pain). Also smaller quantities instead of large one
