TPHA test showing positive
Dear Doc

I was contacted by the Blood Service saying my TPHA test show Syphilis antibodies, meaning I tested Positive for it. For sure not my wife neither myself has ever had another partner - premarital or extra marital. Never had any one of us shown any of the 'traditional' syphilis symptoms.

Only thing I can think about - was a 'liver disorder' that the internist (approx 1992) contributed to "possible Yellow fever" but a cause or exact diagnosis could never be confirmed.

I need to get futher (private) tests done, the TPHA and an ABS test, but would like your opinion of the possibility of contracting the disease in other ways than intimacy.

Thank you, you reply will be much appreciated as this is quite a stressful situation. What about our testing our kids?

Was this the first time you donated blood? If not, when was the last? For what ever happened you are now positive, unless it is a false positive result. My suggestion is that you first have a re-test, including Treponema pallidum IgG, before you worry too much about the result.
