sheuermann's (sp?) disease
hi doc
i've been struggling the past 5 years or so more than ever before. i was diagnosed about 11 years ago at age 15.
the 'gaps' between the discs are not such that surgery (specifically binding discs together) would help. (i am assuming you are familiar with scheuermann's)
my chiro visits havent really made a day-to-day difference, although complete spasms and numbing of limbs have decreased somewhat.
any ideas to cope better? (this is taking a toll psycologically and i am concerned as to how i'm going to cope once pregnant)
thank you, anzelle

Scheuermann's Disease occurs early in life - 13 to 15 year age group when the vertebral plates are forming. Nature will not "repair" this phase and on X/Rays in later years the signs (lesions) will still be evident. In effect it simply means that a weakness in the structural integrity of the surface has occurred - and such persons are usually advised to avoid contact sports etc.. Your life should however in most aspects be fairly normal. Chiropractic care can alleviate any painful symptoms - but will not improve established lesions. Posture is important, and a healthy lifestyle can be of great benefit. There are some interesting websites on this condition - explore these and I am sure you'll find further encouragement. You can lead a normal life.
