Barium syndrome
Please explain what it is and can it lead to paralysis?
Jasmine, it is an acute, usually rapidly progressive form of inflammatory polyneuropathy characterized by muscular weakness and mild distal sensory loss, which in about 2/3 of cases, begins 5 days to 3 wk after a banal infectious disorder, surgery, or an immunization. Guillain-Barré syndrome is the most common acquired demyelinating neuropathy. Cause is unknown but is probably autoimmune.
Most patients improve considerably over a period of months, but about 30% of adults and even more children have residual weakness at 3 yr. Very few people develop permanent paralysis. Good luck
