Blackouts - Epilepsy or something else ?
Dear Doc,

I nearly had a heart attack tonight in a restaurant when my husband went completely pale.. his right arm started shaking and he passed out. Seconds felt like hours and I kept his head up and talked to him to try and revive him... He was out for about 30 seconds and he slowly regained conciousness, was coughing like he wanted to vomit and was extremely weak. Afterwards he said he felt a strange tingling through his body and then like a hot flush.. and then he blanked out. He had lunch today and just finsihed his first drink when this happened. Apparently this has happened about two years ago after a cup of coffee and on one occasion before that - another 4 years or so ago.

I am very concerned about him. Could this be an epileptic fit or is it just some vitamin/mineral defficiency?

Thank you in advance.

Theresa, I doubt that it is due to epilepsy - it sounds more like low blood sugar to me from this side of the screen, but I can’t guarantee it. The best would be for him to see his doctor and have it sorted out. Good luck.
