Dear doc

My daughter confessed to me that the past 2 weeks she can't stop throwing up. When she has finished eating she can't help herself, she runs to the bathroom and throws up.

Is this bulimia? What can i do to stop this?

Worried mom, the first step to recovery is to realise that there is a problem. It sounds like your daughter knows there is a problem, so half the battle has been won already. The problem is that we’re not 100% sure that there isn’t an underlying problem causing her to throw up. The best would be to see your doctor and have him make sure that nothing else is the matter. From there it is a matter of training her body to not throw up the food after having had a meal. The easiest would be to eat small meals throughout the day and to then slowly increase the amounts and decrease the frequency until she can have at least two meals a day without throwing them up. The secret to success is to take your time and not to try and do too much too soon.
If you mail me at I’ll send you some more information on bulimia. Good luck.
