Elderly Nutrition
My granny recently fell at home, subsequently injuring her hip which she had operated on recently. She is barely able to stand by herself let alone walk. She has completely lost her appetite & is basically living of protein & energy drinks, which we have to beg her to take. If she does drink of the said drinks she barely has a cup full. What would you suggest we do to improve her nutritional intake? We are all very concerned as she is becoming thinner & thinner by the day.

Jade, you can tell her that if things become worse, she will have to go on a drip – hopefully this will scare her enough to make her start eating. Making sure that she drinks enough and takes something like Ensure is the only other thing you can do. Just make sure that she isn’t depressed and that this is why she doesn’t have an appetite. Good luck.
