enlarged heart
Woul you please explain the meaning of an enlarged heart. My dad who is 78 has been diagnosed with this. He also has water on the lungs and is a diabetic. He does not smoe or consume alsohol at all but has just been discharged from hjospital after having diahrea for two weeks.

Mel, it sounds like the enlarged heart may be due to heart failure. This means that the heart can’t contract strongly enough to pump away all the blood and then it starts heaping up in the lungs (hence the “water on the lungs”). They will give him water tablets and something to improve the contractility of the heart and hopefully he will be OK. Good luck.
