Gugu, the fact that you have body pains seems to suggest that it is the flu. The treatment is symptomatic. A warm comfortable environment and rest at home is indicated for those with fever and/or acute symptoms. Warm chicken soup and all the other traditional remedies do not cure the disease, but they do make one feel better. In the case of influenza, taking aspirin (600mg every4 hours) is a good idea. Bed rest or restriction of activity is very important and should continue for 24 to 48 hours after the temperature has normalised in order to prevent heart damage. Nasal decongestants may be of value. Steam inhalations mobilize secretions and help relieve chest tightness. The same goes for a mucolytic expectorant cough mixture like Bisolvon Linctus DA® or Adco-linctopent®. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial complications like pneumonia. Good luck.
