Is it possible to get improve alot for a while after a stroke then suddenly get worse?
My 63 year old mother had a stroke in late January this year and it affected the right side of her body. She was in hospital for a week at a private hospital where they took good care of her. She went home after the week in the hospital and things looked positive as she began getting movement back in her body and can now walk slowly and use her right arm minimally. She was also able to swallow normal food after a while. She was however having these so-called anxiety attacks/panic attacks now and then which the doctors said was normal after a stroke, these attacks went away for a week or so but then came back and were worse then before. To cut a long story short my mother has had to be taken to the hospital a few times for these attacks as they were unbearable and last night she had to be re-admitted into the hospital. The doctors are not sure exactly why she is in this state. She can hardly swallow water at the moment without spluttering and choking and is constantly in a state of anxiety, can’t keep still, cannot talk properly (she was talking fine a week ago). I would like to know if it is normal to start improving greatly after a stroke almost to the point of normality then suddenly have a bad spell like this? I would appreciate if you could shed some light. The doctors have done a lot of tests and have not come up with anything really wrong but they say it could be psychological.

Strokeworried, it might be that she had another stroke, because what she is going through is definitely not normal. The best would be to speak to her neurologist as he has all her information at his disposal. Good luck.
