izit my lung/heart/breast?
i'm a 19 year old girl. About a month or two ago i started getting these extremely sharp pains that only lasted a few minutes but worsened when i cough, laugh or breath in or out. They were situated on the left side of my chest around my breast and below.

They've stopped now, but sometimes when i take a deep breath they come again. Someone said it was a heart problem, but is that possible at 19? Someone else said it was some lung problem called Pleurisy. I thought maybe it might be my breast cause my right one had to be operated on last year (it had a benign cyst).

If it is my heart or lung, is it fatal or harmless? Please help me out here.

Mo, it is difficult to say what it is without being able to examine you, but it sounds like you might have had pleurisy. If this is the case it will clear up by itself and you don’t have to worry. If you’re interested in something I wrote on the “other than heart” causes of chest pain, you’re welcome to e-mail me at Good luck.
