Kidneys infection
Hi, My sister is having problems with her kidneys. Every second week she gets this excrusiating back pain that she can''t walk. She always goes to the doctor and they tell her she has severe kidney infection. The last time the doctor said that if it doesn''t get better she has to go to hospital. What causes this? Is there something she can do to prevent this? She doesn''t have medical aid so we want to prevent her going to a state hospital. She is in excrusiating pain

She will need a scan of her kidneys, as well as a study where x-rays are taken to visualise the kidneys and the urethra. It is possible that she might have a structural defect, causing poor drainage or urine and this will cause stasis of the urine, resulting in recurrent infections. Kidney infections are very painful and she must consult an urologist as soon as possible. Recurrent kidney infections can cause kidney failure in the long term.
