Mild pain in hand joints and stiffness
Dear CyberDoc

I am 26, do not smoke, am not overweight and have a active healthy lifestyle. But recently I have been "down" psycologically and any sign of something wrong with me physically makes me paranoid about potential diseases or sickness. A few weeks ago a started to get a recurring mild headache. My doctor said I have stress related headaches and anxiety. However, since Saturday I have been experiencing mild shooting pains in the joints of my fingers along with stifness of fingers and wrists. I also experience short shooting pains in various muscles once or twice a day. There is have no history of arthritis in my family, but I can't stop dwelling on the possibility that I have arthritis or even SLE. Should I be concerned and go see my doctor, or am I potentially making something out of nothing?

Chris, the most common cause for your symptoms would be viral like a cold. The best would be to wait until the end of the week and see what happens. In the mean time you can take a couple of anti-inflammatories and see if it doesn’t want to help. Good luck.
