Mitral Valve Prolapse
Hi, I am 21. I am working in Dubai and had to complete an echocardiogram for my new work's medical aid. I was told that I have a mitral valve prolapse, by the Iranian doctor that performed the echo. He told me than this is quite common for young women and that I need not worry about it. He prescribed me Propranolol 10 and told me that I should take it when I feel angry and stressed. I would please like some advice with the use of this medication. If it is the right medication? and if I need to worry about MVP for my young age? Thank you for your time:) Y
Yolande, it all depends on how severe the prolapse is. Slight prolapse is very common in young women and nothing to worry about. Propranolol is a â-blocker and you can take it if you have palpitations. If you don’t get palpitations, you don’t have to use it. Good luck.
