Ask an expert

Hi Dr,
My husband was rushed to hospital yesterday with severe abdominal pains and was diagnosed with pancreatis. He is on a drip and will be in hospital for a few days.
When he comes home I would like to know whether he needs to have any special dietary requirements etc.
I know he's been told he won't be able to drink again (he wasn't that big a drinker), but does that mean he'll NEVER be able to have a drink again?
Does he stand a risk of becoming a diabetic? Or can we prevent this somehow?
Please help with all these questions as I really am concerned for his health and want to help him heal and stay healthy when he comes home.

Many thanks

Jojo, it all depends on the severity and the cause of the pancreatitis. The best would be to ask the treating physician and he has all the relevant information at his disposal. Good luck.
