Paternity Tests

How much do they costs and how long does it take (using cash not med aid) is there any procedure one needs to follow?

Light, there is a DIY-type option available, but the best would be to have blood taken. You can have DNA tests done on skin and saliva (cells in the saliva), but the blood tests are more accurate. They will need to take blood samples from you, the mother and the child. There is a specific procedure that has to be followed and best would be to phone the laboratory directly that does these tests. In Pretoria the number is 012 344 2005 and in Cape Town 021 4225538. It can be arranged that the blood is drawn at a Pathologist depot anywhere in the country, or the family can go directly to the genetic laboratory. It takes usually 3-5 days to obtain the result and the test is virtually 100% accurate. The laboratory will be able to give you an idea of the costs. Good luck.
