Persistant dryness of eyes harmful?
Hi doc.
I haven't worn my contact lenses for 2 weeks coz my eyes r too dry. My doctor said its an allergy and gave me eyedrops - they aren't helping. Would just like to know if permanent dryness of the eyes can cause any damage to the vision?
Thanx...

Hi cheryl
Your contact lenses need to float on a layer of tears to allow oxygen to reach your cornea, ( the clear part over the coloured part of your eye ) as it has no blood vessels. If your eyes are too dry and you use contact lenses, blood vessels grow into your cornea and can cause loss of vision.
Try using Duratears with an antihistamine like Loratidine tablet at night with Spersallerg?
