Please HELP!!!
Dear Doc,
I have recently been diagnoised with an under-active thyroid. I have starting taking Eltroxin (0.1mg) for approx a week now.
I have a great concern which I kindly seek some advice on. Before I found out I had an under-active thyroid, my entire life I have always been a thin person. I AM STILL that person - I have not gained any weight even with this condition. I found out that I have actually lost a little weight. I am concerned as I always battled with my weight (being under-weight). Is Eltroxin going to make me loose any more weight? This seems odd, because generally under-active means you gain weight (in my case that is not the case at all) but I don' t want to loose more weight. Is there anything I can take in conjuction with Eltroxin to ensure that I don' t loose weight further as I can not afford to.
This is very stressful to me, especially now with me having an under-active thryroid. Please some advise on this matter would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hallo Claire
Eltroxin will not cause weight loss if you are using the correct dosage - it may take a while to fine tune the dosage but your doctor will take regular blood tests in the beginning. You may see some "weight loss" on the scale but this may be only a loss of retained water (edema) which is a common symptom with underactive thyroid. Just eat a healthy diet with enough protein (4 portions a day) and healthy complex carbohydrates ( at least 4 portions a day).
