Pre-toddler with a dry skin
Hi doc,
I'm a mother to a 20-month-old (african) baby boy and very frustrated with my baby's dry skin. Since birth I used Johnson's products on him and for obvious reasons, the products didn't agree with his skin. I was adviced not to use any perfumed products on him and I immediately stopped and switched to using Vaseline Blue Seal for babies. That was almost a year ago but I still don't see any change.
It's worse on his legs. I guess it's the long trousers that he wears but that's just my own speculation. His face is just "perfect" as I never applied anything on his face when he was younger.
Please help, what do I do?

Dear MK
He may have eczema - try to bath him only with Aqueous cream as a soap - rub his whole body in with it and rinse off. Use any good moisturizer like UEA, Epizone on the whole body and get a oily type like Epizone E for his legs. The Vaseline contains petroleum products that can in some children cause irritation. If he is in a day care centre, ask them to re-apply the moisturizer every 4-6 hours. You can also supplement him with a good multivitamin containing vit A, E and D for his skin - but don't overdose - stay with prescribed dose as indicated on the bottle. Ask your pharmacist about a possible one to use.
