Question about bird flu
Hello,

Can we get bird flu from raw chicken in supermarkets or cooked chicken in restaurants? A Health24 article I received via email says that there have been cases reported in South Africa - if this is true - then we're all in big trouble- or not?! And if someone gets it and goes to an SA hospital - will they be treated properly-do we have the meds to deal with it?

Thanks in advance,

Dear Just Asking
You can't get birdflu from chicken in supermarkets or restaurants. We don't have birdflu in RSA according to our department of agriculture and yes we will be able to treat it if it is not a pandemic.
