Sciatica nerve
Hi Cyberdoc, just a quick question, I had back surgery 2 months ago L4/L5 Discectomy (disc pressing on my sciatica nerve) I am still having problems with pain running down my buttock and leg sometimes alternating left to right side. The Neuro Surgeon mentioned I have another two disc degenerating above L4/L5 could it be related? I am due to go back to work in May after being off for two months but I don't want to go back still having this most annoying pain please advise.
Hi Mickey
Yes - we learnt a little rhyme at medical school - 4 to the floor and 3 to the kne - meaning that pressure on L4 will give you pain down into the foot, L3 will give you pain to the Knee and L2 will give pain in the buttock and upper leg. However his pain may be due to the fact that you just had major surgery - give it more time to get better - 80% of this clears up by itself in 3 months.
