My son was diagnosed with spastic colon sometime ago. My concern now is that he is always in pain and forever chewing Lomotil or Immodium tablets - he has lost app 6-8 kgs in the last 2 months but his stomach is bloated. He also has an extremely weak bladder and feels the need to urinate all the time - could there be a problem with perhaps something pushing on the bladder that is causing this? What do you recommend?

Dear Fee
Spastic colon is a diagnosis by exclusion - in other words if ALL other reasons for bloating, stomach ache, diarrhoea etc have been excluded, it could be a Spastic colon. If he did not have at least a colonoscopy, a sonar of his stomach, an urological examination and bladder tests, he needs to have a second opinion. A Gastro-enterologist and urologist should both examine him .
