Throat
Hi, dad in hospital bad case of emphazima, had lung infection and has been in ICU, has had to have a pipe put in his throat to assist him in his breathing, pipe has been removed a week ago, he has no feeling in the throat, not swallowing, has been on a drip, is still on a drip(week later), because of him not being able to swallow. Have told him to pratice by "rolling little bits of salava in his mouth and swallow that, not working....Please help....
Dear J
Swallowing is a reflex and he may have temporary loss of the 9th cranial nerve function - causing the problem with the swallowing. Sometimes it helps if you massage the throat lightly and if you start with soft foods like porridge or jelly.
