Hi Doc,

I have Tinnitus. It is driving me crazy. I have read and my GP told me that there is no cure. I really don't know how I am going to cope with this noise in my ears for the rest of my life!! Is there really nothing one can do to make it go away? Also I read that this condition leads to hearing loss. This is bad news as well as I am a switchboard operator and I still need to work for the next 15 years. Some days the noise is so loud, I just sit and cry. I am worried that this is going to lead to a depression.

Are there any people out there with Tinnitus and how are you coping?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Susie
Firstly, I think you should have a Ear nose and throat specialist evaluate your ears, to ensure that there is no treatable cause for the tinnitus. Secondly one do get medication that can make the tinnitus better and there are techniques that you can use to make it less irritating.
