Anxiety/Burnout
Beste Cybershrink

Baie dankie
Ek hoor graag van u

Johann

Hi Johann,
Sounds a bit like you're the "Type A" personality someone else was asking about not long ago --- driven, perfectionist, and wanting everything to be perfect. The sort of guy who is often successful in business, at least initially, and the sort of guy we'd all like to be working on something for us, because we know HE will want it to be right, rather than only "good enough". But it's not always, unmodified, a healthy life-style, as you are discovering. And then, as you describe, one finds it hard to delegate anytihing to others, and drives oneself into stress and exhaustion.
I agree with your formulation. Too much driven ansiety and stress is sure to disturb one's sleep. More chronic anxiety state can arise. Burnout can arise from chronic stress.
Now, counselling, maybe with the temporary aid of some meds like Bispirone to reduce the anxiety without being open to dependency problems, can help a lot ( I wouldn't generally recommend any other meds in this situation) If one can switch one's perfectionistic concern with doing things perfectly, ALSO to relaxing and recreation ( I like that word, as re-creating oneself is indeed part of what's needed ) ; then you could become as good as relaxing as you are at working, and find the right balance between these two tasks.
yes, there is such a thing as burnout, and part of it is that one becomes a slave to one's work, but loses the satisfaction in it that originally made it rewarding. Work with a good psychologist / shrink to get this right, and it shouldn't take long.
