i would like to know if bipolar can be passed on to children if yours was not inherited???

this is a major concern for myself and my future husband!! yes i wrote in a few weeks ago and a lot of ppl told me to run like hell!!

well to all of them i could not be happier!!!!

also if anyone knows of a "shrink" that i could get hold of and talk to regarding bipolar as the support group in kzn is not very informative!?

I don't recall the precise details of your last message, but I'm pleased to hear you're so happy. Bipolar, or at least a vulnerability to developing bipolar disorder, if other circumstances, not all fuloly understood, happen to point in the same direction, CAN be inherited. More so when both parents have bipolar disorder ( as with all other partly inherited conditions. We don't know to what extent our own bipolar disorder was inherited, so its not practical to take that into account.
As for informative, check websites internationally ( via google, for instance ) for more information, maybe the local support group, even if somewhat lame, can suggest a friendly and informative shrink --- maybe call the Dept of Psychiatry at the medical School, and see who they can suggest
