Hi there

I was just wondering what the reasons would be behind poor concentration skills, and how this could be improved.

Dear Howdy,
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'concentration skills". Let me explain myself. There is a general feature of the function of our brains, by which we can "concentrate" --- to focus our attention on a specific task of topic for long enough to achieve useful results, without excessive mind-wandering or distraction. many different factors can reduce our ability to do this, including physical illnesses, ( try a fever, for instance !) ; and psychiatric illnesses, like depression and stressful anxiety.
Also relevant to our ability to deal with tasks and sudies are some specific skills, epending on the task --- problem-solving skills, for instance, in being able to recognize that there is a problem, usefully define what it is, recognize alternative approaches to it, recognize what information we ned to choose a good solution, getting the information, and ten using it to select and formulate the best response to the problem ; and similarly, study skills.
So, if one has poor general concentration abilities, especially if these have recently declined, i'ts worth having a good physical and psych checkup with your doctor, to rule out problems which would benefit from treatment. If it's more an issue of poor problem-solving and/or study skills, then one needs to see a counsellor, to work on developing whatever skills are identified as lacking.
