Failing Mother, Please help
About 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my 2nd child, we had what you may call a family conflict. My son who was about 3 at the time and myself had a very strong relationship and he was really a lovely child. I think that I became very angry after this whole thing and am still battling with life at the moment. Due to this, I feel that it has indirectly rubbed off on my son. He is constantly angry with us and screams at me and throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his own way. He seems to look for attention the whole time. What really scares me is that at times I want to lash out at him and he irriates me to such an extent that I feel I may even hate him even though I know that I do love him. Please can someone help with some kind of direction to help me fix what I feel I have done before it is to late.

Dear Lisa,
Carol's quite right. You have the insight to know that something is wrong, and that your anger is a major part of the problem --- seek counselling for yourself first, and as you improve, the problem with your child is likely to become much smaller, or even disappear. Anyhow, once you're feeling more at ease, you'll be in a far better position in which to help the child, and can discus how you yourself can help him, within your own counselling.
